According to legend, King Bahram Gur had an architect build seven domed pavilions, each dedicated to one of his seven enchanting wives, who came from different regions of the world.

In this scene, Bahram Gur is depicted seated inside the Sandalwood Pavilion , in the company of one of the princesses. Around him, courtiers entertain the royal couple with music, dancing, and sumptuous dishes, in an atmosphere of refined pleasure.

The entire scene is framed by a building on the right and accompanied by poetic verses placed at the top and bottom of the composition. From the windows and door of the building, curious onlookers furtively observe the sovereign's banquet. The building's dome looms over the scene, positioned above the verses and the title at the top of the margin.
